CA-25 Representative Mike Garcia visits The Master’s University, sharing the importance of voting

Mike Garcia, California’s 25th Congressional District’s representative, last Friday visited The Master’s University (TMU) in Santa Clarita, California, emphasizing the importance of voting.

Garcia’s appearance comes prior to the midterm election on November 8, 2022, in which all 435 House seats will be up for election.

At the beginning of chapel, Jonny Ardavanis, the school’s Dean of Campus Life, introduced Garcia, who spoke about how a single vote can “change the fabric of our nation,” using his most recent election as an example, in which he beat Christy Smith by 333 votes, about one third of the TMU student body.  He recognized that what is frustrating Americans is inflation, the national debt, crime rates, the U.S. southern border, and high gas prices, and he said that voting is how the democratic process determines the most qualified person to address these issues.

“If you’re in a 45-degree dive, and you look outside on American Airlines, and you see that the engines are on fire, or that you’re missing a part of your wing; it doesn’t matter if you’re on the left side of the aisle or if you’re on the right side of the aisle.  It doesn’t matter if you’re a Democrat or a Republican,” Garcia said.  “You just want people who are qualified to be in that cockpit; you want someone that you know can pull us out of the nosedive, that can fix the ills, that can fix the wrongs, do what’s right, and get back to what this beautiful country was founded on, and that is our Constitution.”

Garcia was the third politician to visit the campus with Santa Clarita Councilmember Bill Miranda and California State Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez Valladares visiting the Monday and Wednesday before.

These appearances are part of the university’s effort to get its students to register to vote in Los Angeles County.  Throughout the week, a table was outside the cafeteria where students could register.

U.S. Citizens who are residents of California can register to vote or check their registration status at https://registertovote.ca.gov by October 24, fifteen days before the election.  Californians who miss the deadline can still vote using Same Day Voter Registration.
