Off-campus students at The Master’s University gathered last Saturday evening at Dockweiler State Beach to fellowship around a fire.  This was the second annual Beach Bonfire Night.

Throughout the evening, some students stood at the shore while others reclined near the firepit.  Morgan Fay, the Women’s Off-Campus Resident Director, brought burgers and fries from In-N-Out Burger for dinner.

After the group lit the fire, the students roasted s’mores and socialized.  Near the end, the group sang worship songs such as “Amazing Grace” and “As the Deer.”  Rose Wittenmyer accompanied with her harp.

“There’s not many opportunities for off-campus people to get to know each other,” said Nick Quiroz, an off-campus junior.  “An event like this is valuable because it helps us all get to know one another and to talk to each other in ways that we can’t or don’t often on campus.”

According to the Los Angeles International Airport Station, the wind blew in between 9 and 20 miles per hour. The temperature hovered around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

“It’s a unique environment because it’s all huddled around a bonfire. … So, we specifically do it in March because it’s cold. So, you have to be around the fire, which means fellowship has to happen,” Fay said.

“I’m just thankful that it’s another good turnout like last year,” said Dylan Flannery, the Men’s Off-Campus Resident Director. “…seems like people are just relaxing and fellowshipping and jamming out to some good, wholesome tunes and eating snacks, drinking good drinks, and In-N-Out burgers on the way.”
